There are a million stories in Liberty City. This one changes everything. Once a trusted wise guy in the Leone crime family, Toni Ciprini was forced into hiding after killing a made man. Now he's back in a singleplayer adventure for PlayStation 2 in which he is determined to put things right by any means.

The ninth game in the GTA series and originally released on the PSP in 2005 and re-released for PlayStation 2 in 2006, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is a prequel to Grand Theft Auto 3 in which players return to Liberty City, the town where all the rules were broken as Grand Theft Auto 3 revolutionized gaming and made the GTA series the biggest franchise on the planet. Within these stories the streets are in turmoil. Warring Mafiosi vie for control as the town begins to self-destruct under waves of political corruption, organized crime, drugs trafficking and union strikes. No one can be trusted as Toni and you attempt to clean up the mess of the city's chaotic underworld. The game features the famous sandbox styled nonlinear gameplay of the GTA series, as well as multiple NPCs, vehicles and weapons, independent storylines and a wealth of in-game radio stations accessible from vehicles.

Key Features

  • An epic adventure set in the Grand Theft Auto franchises 3-island metropolis of Liberty City, circa Theft Auto 3. The game features a fully 3D experience exactly similar to the Grand Theft Auto games originally launched on the PS2.
  • Amazing visuals on the PS2 due to enhanced draw distance, new lighting and shading models, as well as real-time reflections.
  • A massive nonlinear storyline penned by Rockstar's award-winning writing team.
  • Professional character voice acting and production.
  • The game includes many side quests and extras to unlock, plus 100 packages to find.
'Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories' game logo
Vice City, 1984. Opportunity abounds in a city emerging from the swamps, its growth fueled by the violent power struggle in a lucrative drugs trade. Construction is everywhere as a shining metropolis rises from foundations of crime and betrayal. As a soldier, Victor 'Vic' Vance has always protected his dysfunctional family, his country and himself. One bad decision later and that job is about to get much harder. Kicked out onto the streets of a city torn between glamour and gluttony, Vic is faced with a stark choice - build and empire or be crushed.

The tenth game in the Grand Theft Auto series, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories was originally released on the PSP in 2006, and then PlayStation 2 in 2007. Like Liberty City Stories before it, it is a singleplayer prequel; this time to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The game has all the functionality that GTA fans crave: open nonlinear gameplay with plenty of optional side missions, multiple ways to interact with NPCs, as well as a wide variety of available weapons, vehicles and radio stations. In addition, it also features extra in-game content not seen in the PSP version.

Key Features

  • Players can steal and drive a variety of vehicles, including automobiles, boats, airplanes, helicopters, and motorcycles.
  • Open, nonlinear environment with multiple storylines and missions - from drive-by shootings to armed robberies.
  • Avoid attracting attention - The more chaos you cause, the stronger the response -- first SWAT teams, then Feds and finally the military.
  • Classic and all-new side missions, like Beach Patrol.
  • Pay off hospital staff to keep weapons you'd normally lose.
  • 'Empire Building' game functionality requiring players to open and operate various businesses on property taken over from enemy gangs.
  • Additional gameplay mechanics such as an 'Intelligent' targeting system that targets enemies posing a clear threat or attacking, over innocent bystanders, and a hand-to-hand combat system that allows for grappling moves, throws and the ability to stand on top of enemies.

2 out of 5 stars Sorry can't recommend   September 3, 2010

I'm a big fan of the the GTA series was excited didn't think twice to read the reviews since I know Rockstar made great GTA series. This was a serious let down GTA Liberty Series and Vice City Stories was ported from the PSP. The performance of of GTA Liberty City is terrible with its low frame rate and both games was plague with poor lighting. They apparently scaled the graphics without optimised first they could of used back Vice City or San Andreas engine. I'm really dissappointed with this.

5 out of 5 stars Just Like the Good Old Days   July 20, 2010

Let me start by saying I have yet to play through most of Liberty City Stories and I played only enough of Vice City Stories to see if I would like it. Also, this review will probably be more helpful to someone who has played GTA3 and Vice City. With that said, I am very impressed with both games. This is because they took two old games that I know and love and changed very little about them. All the missions are different, but the important thing for me is that the maps are exactly the same. To stop boring you, here is a list of things that I think makes the games worth playing if you enjoyed GTA3 and Vice City:

1. The maps are nearly the same.

2. The addition of motorcycles in LCS.

3. The ability to swim in VCS.

4. The smooth gameplay. I was fearful the gameplay would be choppy considering it was converted from a PSP game (e.g. Twisted Metal: Head On, when converted, seemed very choppy to me)

5. New missions while keeping certain things about the game (e.g. Vigilante Missions, Hidden Packages, Unique Jumps, etc.)

So to conclude, this game has deep and smooth gameplay, takes old games and makes them new without compromising anything, and is ideal for anyone who, like me, believes that GTA3 is the pinnacle of the the series. For those who haven't played the old ones, I think they are worth a try, but I'm not sure if you are going to feel the same was as the gamer who has played GTA3 and Vice City.
